As every year, we proudly present the “Web Animation Contest” at the Animation Kobe. Everybody is invited to submit all kinds of animation works!
The theme may be chosen freely. The submitted works will be presented on the homepage of the Web Animation Contest, and might be used for related events, PR-material etc. of Animation Kobe.
Please see below for regulations of submission.
If you love to make professional animations like on TV, but feel it is too hard and time consuming, maybe Web Anime is for you!

1. Submissions

Length of Work:

Up to 3 minutes per work

File Size:

Up to 1 MB (in case of several data files, total file size should not exceed 1 MB)

File Format:

a. Flash Movie.(*.swf) made by "Adobe Flash" etc. of Adobe Systems Incorporated.
b. Eva Format (*.eva) made by "EVA animator (series)" of Sharp Corporation.

* You must obtain appropriate permission from the original creator(s) of the file regarding usage of the music, sound effects and graphics etc. in this contest and your submission.

2. Submission Procedure / Submission Deadline / Address

How to submit:

All works must be submitted by E-mail.
* Please attach your work and the Entry Form filled in to the E-Mail.

Submission Deadline:

September 12, 2008 (Friday). E-mails received thereafter will not be accepted.

3. Judges

The submitted works will be judged at the “Kobe Digital Contents Council” etc. The results will be announced on the Web Animation Contest’s homepage during October 2008.

4. Awards (denominations/supplementary prizes)

“Grand Prix”

Divided into 3 age categories with one prize each:
1. Elementary school students and below
2. Junior high school and high school students
3. General

“Nihon Bunkyo Shuppan Award”

4 works created with the software “EVA Animator School” (in Japanese only) will be selected for the following prizes:
● Excellence Award (1 gift coupon over 5,000 Yen) – for the most outstanding work
● Art Award (1 gift coupon over 5,000 Yen) – for the most artistic work
● Creativity Award (1 gift coupon over 3,000 Yen) – for a work with the best idea or innovative technique
● Effort Award (1 gift coupon over 2,000 Yen) – for a work obviously created with strenuous effort

“Ba-Z Award” (2 “Tosho Card” book coupons over 5,000 Yen each)

For this Award, 2 works created with the software “EVA Animator Kids” (for Macintosh and Mac OS X [in Japanese only]) will be selected.

“Rio Award”

We award a total of 10 prizes for works submitted in “Flash Movie” or “EVA” formats.
● “EQ Trainer-Prize” (5 sets of Software “EQ Trainer” for Windows [in Japanese only]) – for 5 works in the general category
● “Nihongo wo kitaeyou [Brush up your Japanese]-Prize” (5 sets of Software “Nihongo wo kitaeyou [Brush up your Japanese]” for Windows [in Japanese only])
For this prize, 5 works of the categories “Elementary school and below” and “Junior high school and High school” will be selected.

“Lucky Award” (8 “Tosho Card” book coupons over 1,000 Yen)

2 contestants will be chosen in a lucky draw each month (8 winners total).

Policy for Handling of submitted work

1. The ownership and copyright of submitted work remain with the creator. However, the competition organisers; Executive Committee of Animation Kobe, Kobe Digital Contents Council, and Kobe City Hall, reserve the rights to use submitted work for the purpose of display over the internet and in related promotional events.

* Once the Web Animation Contest Administration Office receives an application, the organisers gain rights to adapt, reproduce, show, make it transmittable and right of public transmission.

2. In the case of the organisers using submitted material, organisers may ask for minor variations to be made. The screen size and layout of submitted material may be changed by the organisers at the organizer’s discretion.

3. Applications must not use third party material and/or infringe copyright. If the work or comments therein are deemed by the organisers to have; used personal information (including real names), violated the privacy of others, infringed intellectual property rights, or included publicly offensive material, the organisers reserve the right to remove the submission from the competition or to delete relevant material.

4. Please note that submitted material will not be returned to the applicant.

Policy for Handling of Personal Information

Personal information provided on the “Web Animation Contest Entry Form” will be handled in an appropriate manner according to Kobe City’s Personal Information Protection Regulations and appropriate measures will be taken to prevent information being leaked.

Purpose of use

1. To establish contact with applicants in point to be checked
2. To establish contact with applicants regarding notification of winning a prize or details of awarding ceremony
Personal information provided will not be used for anything other than the purposes stated above. However, when permission is given by the applicant, personal information provided may be used for other purposes. In which case the personal information will only be used for the specific purpose an applicant has given permission for.

Providing information to a third party

Personal information provided will only be used within the departments listed below, which require the information. The information will not be used or shown elsewhere to a third party unless there is permission given by the applicant or in legally permit able circumstances, however, it excludes it when sharing as follows.

Deposit of Personal Information

In relation to personal information provided, this information may be processed by a third party within the boundaries of the purposes of use.

Regarding the display, correction and deletion of submissions

If the applicant requests to make changes regarding their personal information being shown, changed, or deleted, Animation Kobe Executive Committee Administration will confirm that the request is being made by the applicant himself/herself then proceed to take action. In such a case, please contact the Animation Kobe Executive Committee Administration Office (Tel: 078-322-5042)

Regarding the “Web Animation Contest Entry Form”

If the prerequisites for the “Web Animation Contest Entry Form” have not been fulfilled, or if the applicant does not (indicate that they) agree to our handling of personal information policy, the submitted work will not be considered for competition.
