ĄAward eligibility

Animation works produced or shown in Japan between September 1998 and August 1999, with an emphasis on digital entertainment, as well as individuals who were involved in the production of animation in Japan during that same period.

ĄAward judging

The judging committee will convene in September and decide the winners of the categories listed above.

ĄAward criteria

ĄAnimation Kobe - Individual Award

This will be awarded to an up-and-coming artist involved in the production of animation in Japan, whose creative activity, as well as daring form of expression and originality, indicate a promising future.

ĄAnimation Kobe - Feature Award

This will be awarded to an animation feature film shown in Japan, or to a film that made effective use of animation. There are no restrictions regarding the techniques used, such as cell animation, 3-D animation, CGI, or compound use of all of these. However, the feature film must be one that was produced for the purpose of entertainment. The capacity to develop new markets through such elements as cohesiveness, fresh ideas, originality and the application of digital technology will be given special attention. Also, regardless of the production location, contribution to the nurturing of animation professionals in Japan will be valued.

ĄAnimation Kobe - TV Feature Award

Will be awarded to an animation work made for TV or a TV work that made effective use of animation, which was aired in Japan via conventional, satellite or cable TV broadcast. Replays of old shows are excluded from this category. TV works shown as regular programs, special programs or parts of programs that were made for the purpose of entertainment will be considered. There are no restrictions on the techniques used, such as cell animation, 3D animation, CGI or compound use of all of these. The capacity to develop new markets through such elements as cohesiveness, fresh ideas, originality and the application of digital technology will be given special attention. Also, regardless of the production location, contribution to the nurturing of animation professionals in Japan will be valued.

ĄAnimation Kobe - Packaged Work Award

This will be awarded to an animation work or a work that made effective use of animation, which was distributed in Japan via package media. There are no restrictions on the techniques used, such as cell animation, 3D animation, CGI or compound use of all of these. Also, there are no restrictions regarding the platform in which it was packaged, such as video, CD-ROM, DVD, or game software. However, the work must be one that was produced for the purpose of entertainment. The capacity to develop new markets through such elements as cohesiveness, fresh ideas, originality and the application of digital technology will be given special attention. Also, regardless of the production location, contribution to the nurturing of animation professionals in Japan will be valued.

ĄAnimation Kobe Special Award

This will be awarded to an individual or an organization which has made a long-term contribution to the Japanese animation world.
