Overview

”Awards
Animation today is receiving worldwide attention as "Made in Japan" contents. Against this background, animation is also gaining more and more recognition as a culture unto itself. A new world of animation is unfolding, as advances in digital technology result in ever higher levels of visual expression and increasing diversity. Japan has inherited a mature animation tradition, with a specifically Japanese way of expression. The "ANIMATION KOBE Awards" were established in 1996, with the objective of contributing to the improvement of visual expression and the contents industry, focusing mainly on digitalization and animation as entertainment.

The "ANIMATION KOBE Individual Award" and "Animation Kobe Overall Awards" will be presented starting this fiscal year. The aim of these awards is to promote a clearer sense of ANIMATION KOBE's role in fostering excellence in animation industry professionals. The "ANIMATION KOBE Individual Award"will be conferred upon an individual or group that demonstrates great promise in the use of new expression and energy. The "Animation Kobe Overall Awards" will be presented to works of animation that show outstanding creativity in the animation world, in terms of overall excellence as a work of art, newness of planning and ideas, originality, application of digital technology, and other criteria. The overall awards are divided into three categories -- theater, television, and package.

”Award Recipients
Award recipients may be works of animation that were either created and produced or shown publicly in Japan during the period from September 1997 through August 1998 and in which digitalization and entertainment play a large role; or, individuals or groups related to the production of animation in Japan.
