- 1.BEST PRODUCTION AWARDS
(Awarded to outstanding works made in Japan)
- ・Best Animation Film Award

Animation films produced in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997. both 2D and 3D films will be considered. The judgment of works will concentrate on their originality, the unique characteristics of Japanese animation they carry, as well as their creative market appeal through the implementation digital technologies.
- ・Best TV Animation Award

Animation for TV produced and aired in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997. This category applies to all TV animation works, serialized features or special programs, with the exclusion of rebroadcasts. Both 2D and 3D animation will be considered. The originality of the production, market appeal based on creativity and implementation of new digital technologies etc. will be the criteria for this category.
- ・Best Original Packaged Software Award

Packaged software produced in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997. both 2D and 3D works will be considered. The originality and uniqueness of the work, as well as its contribution to the expansion of the market through the implementation of new digital technologies will be the criteria for judgment in this category.
- ・Best Interactive Software Award

Interactive animation software produced in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997. both 2D and 3D works will be considered, and there is no restriction on the platform (personal computer, game-machines, network etc.) for which the software was produced. Utilization of the special features of interactivity to create new forms of expression in animation, as well as market appeal based on creativity will be the criteria for judgment in this category.
- 2.KOBE AWARD
- Will be awarded to a person or an organization involved in the production of animation, who through their innovative activity made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of Animation produced in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997.
- 3.INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY AWARDS
(To be awarded to creative persons who had outstanding achievements in one category of animation production)
- ・Best Digital technology

Will be awarded for an outstanding contribution to the development and implementation of digital expressive technologies in animation made in Japan between October, 1996 and August 1997.
- ・Best Music Composing

Will be awarded for the composing of outstanding musical piece used in animation produced in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997. The work's fine musical features will be given just as much importance as its popularity.
- ・Best Voice Acting

Will be awarded for an outstanding voice acting performance in an animation produced in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997.
- ・Best Direction

Will be awarded for an outstanding direction of an animation produced in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997, which through its unique use of digital technologies, originality and creativity made a strong impact on the industry and the public as well.
- 4.Foreign feature award

Will be awarded to an outstanding animation feature film produced abroad and released in Japan between October 1996 and August 1997, which through its original concept and creativity had a strong impact on Japan's animation. There are no restrictions in this category on the form of expression (2D, 3D) or the feature's genre.
- 5.Lifetime Contribution Award
- Will be awarded to a person who through his/her lifetime work made an outstanding contribution to the development of Japanese animation.
